Duke University

Duke Universityis a private research university which is located in Durham, North Carolina of United States. It was founded in 1838 by Methodists and Quakes in the present-day town of Trinity, the school moved to Durban in 1892. In 1924, James B. Duke established The Duke Endowment and the institution changed its name to honor his decreased father, Washington Duke.

The university is spread across 8600 acres on three contiguous campuses in Durham as well as in marine lab in Beaufort also. In 2012, Duke Research expenditure and it was $1.01 billion which is the seventh largest in the nation.

Duke was started in 1938 as a private subscription school in Randolph Country. In 1841, organized by Union Institute Society Brown’s schoolhouse became Union Institute Academy when North Carolina issued a charter. Later on in 1924, Washington Duke’s son James B. Duke with a $40 million trust fund established the Duke Endowment and the aim of the fund was to be distributed to orphanages, Methodist Church, hospitals and four colleges including Trinity College. The president of Trinity, William Preston Few emphasize that the institution be renamed as Duke University to honor the family’s generosity and make it different from the other colleges and Universities.

Duke Universityis spread over 8170 acres on three contiguous campuses in Durham and Dukes main campus is spread over 55 acres. Today Duke has widely developed and the Duke’s growth and academic focus have contributed to continuity the universities reputation as a research powerhouse and academic. Duke library stands in top ten library system.  In 2005, Duke University established a partnership with the national university of Singapore to develop a joint medical program and improve the quality education.

Duke Universityhas served both graduate and undergraduate students with 10 different schools and colleges. Duke university runs under semester based academic calendar. It offers a unique education system also a comprehensive teaching and research university.
